Our waterfall!!!!

waterfall

This past summer, we started construction on a waterfall.  It has been finished for about a month and a half and we started using it immediately.  The photos being taken with it are coming it great.  Last week I photographed a senior in his fly fishing gear near it!
In addition to the waterfall, other features were added to this outside setting at our studio.  This isn’t the only outside setting, we have others!  And this upcoming spring I have more ideas up my sleeve for the class of 2011!  Already 2 major props have been purchased to decorate them.
Here is some background.  This waterfall project was conceived a few years back and was supposed to be in a different location, but I am happy we waited.  What we finally came up with is huge, one senior commented that it looked like she was at the Nay Aug gorge when she saw her photos.  Lots of building materials were recycled during this project.  The bricks from the path are from one of my parents neighbors house from a path they ripped out a few years back.  Some of the internal structure of the waterfall is made of smashed up cinder blocks that came from a wall that was ripped out when we built our north light studio.  Rich Banick Photography is green!!!

The summer is over! And we are still busy!

Posted in Uncategorized on September 4, 2009 by richbanick

As I write this, we just finished our last senior before all of the kids go back to school.  It has been very very busy here at the studio.  We have been photographing seniors from all over the area.  We will continue photographing them next week and into the winter.  People from all over the area have noticed our quality and are now coming to us for their senior photos.

We have added dozens of backgrounds and props this summer.  Our newest and most exciting project is the construction of a very large waterfall and stream in my outdoor set area.  We just started using it this past week since the construction is still ongoing.  It is pretty neat of an area.  I am sure when you see it, you will love it!!  (I would post a photo of the set, but I don’t want my competition to see it yet!)  I also have another area that we are currently working on plans for.  So seniors 2011, I am getting ready for you also!  There will be even more exciting things for your photos next summer.

We are currently booking appointments at the end of October and will be taking senior photos throughout the winter and into next spring, so it is never too late to make your appointment for your photos.  Call our studio at 344-7053 to get on our schedule!

And if you already went to another photographer, don’t forget about our Cash for Clunkers program, just check the previous entry in my blog!

Have a great holiday weekend!

Cash for Clunkers!

With the government program ending, I decided it was time to start up one for senior photos.

By now, lots of 2010 seniors had their photos taken,  a few hundred by me and lots more by other photographers.  Some of you that went to them might be thinking you made a mistake.  Especially when you started to see the portraits I took of your friends this summer posted on facebook, if they showed you their proof book, or received a wallet from them.

All is not lost!  Here is the deal.  Bring in your receipt for your senior photographs from the place you went to, along with either finished photos or your proofs (I just want to see them, I won’t keep them!) and I will give you 45 dollars off the 60 minute session.  This session is normally $ 60.00 so you are getting a 75% off discount, just like in June.

So if  you made a mistake and went someplace else for your senior photos, now is the time to call us at 344-7053 and make your appointment.  Then you too will have awesome senior photos just like your friends.

When you call, mention this to the person booking your session.  To get this special, call before Sept 30th and book your session before your yearbook deadline .  We are currently booking sessions in late October for times after school, there may be earlier dates if you are willing to come in during the day.  So call today!

July came and went and my head is still spinning!

We were booked solid with seniors, every day in July….  and I loved every minute of it..  I can’t wait to get back in the studio in the morning and continue.  I just enjoy what I do and enjoy spending time with the kids and their parents.

We have been getting calls from seniors from schools all over the area.  My work is really standing out from the others around here and I am proud of that.

We are booked into mid September at this point, but there is always a possibility of a cancellation, so give us a call at 344-7053 to make your appointment.

In the mean time, check out our photos on facebook at:  http://www.facebook.com/rich.banick

We put up 2 photos from every 60 minute session we do, it has been quite popular this year!

June!

Posted in Uncategorized on July 1, 2009 by richbanick

June was a crazy month around Rich Banick Photography.  Between finishing up all of our spring sports, we started photographing seniors.  This year, we did DOUBLE the number of seniors in June than we did last year.  And with our two cards with specials getting out in the mail, we are really booked up for July and part of August.  There is still some limited availability for our 60 minute sessions in July and for Prep Traditional Sessions.  August has a lot of availability now, but it is filling up day by day.  Please call us at 344-7053 to book your appointments, before it is too late!

In the background department, we have yet again expanded the choices of backgrounds available.  I think if you add up all of my backgrounds, I have more than all of my competition combined!

Don’t forget to check out our facebook page:  http://www.facebook.com/rich.banick

We usually update it once a week with seniors.  This year, every senior I photograph for the 60 minute session gets 2 images posted on facebook after their proofs are ready, 90 minute get 3 and 30 minute and prep traditional get 1.  They are getting a lot of comments ..  all very positive, we are excited!

2009 Wallet photos

Posted in Uncategorized on June 25, 2009 by richbanick

I got crazy idea today as I walked into my studio this morning.  On the walls of the stairs going down into one of our studios, we have some huge framed boards with wallets in them, 908 wallets to be exact.  They represent about 90 % of the wallets we printed from June of 2008 until mid Jan 2009.    And after Jan, we printed a few hundred more!!!  Kids look at them when they are here for ideas but, I decided to post them all so you can look through them to get ideas before coming to the studio for your senior photographs.  Yes, there are 908 photos!  You can see that there are favorite poses that the kids go for all of the time.  I take hundreds of photos of you when you come to my studio, on lots of different backgrounds.  You then edit them down into you favorite, 20, 40, or 60 depending on the session you pick.  20 for the 30 minute session, 40 for the 60 minute session and 60 for the 90 minute session.  But to be honest, I usually let you go over if you ask ;)

We have a lot of choices here when it comes to backgrounds and props, and if you want, you can bring your own props from cars and motorcycles to music instruments and everything in between.

The nice thing about our sessions, is that you can do anything you want, you don’t have to purchase a special session for B&W or White on White, or a special session for outside, that is all included.

Here is the link to all of those photos!  Happy browsing…..  and make your appointments today, our July & August postcard hit the mailboxes yesterday and our phone has been ringing off the hook!!  It arrived the same day as my competitions card  …..  you can do the comparison yourself.  (We believe there is no comparison!)  Follow the link below and you will see what I mean!

My first digital photo!

Posted in Uncategorized on June 2, 2009 by richbanick

I was digging through some archives today and came across a disk of the first digital photos I took.  They were taken in the fall of 1992 while I was a student at RIT.  They were taken with a Kodak DCS-200 camera.  The camera only photographed in B&W at the time, if you wanted color, you had to take 3 photos, one with a Red filter, a filter Green and a Blue filter then put them back together in Photoshop, which at the time was Version 2.0  Here is one photo I took for a class assignment.

HANDHAIR

The camera was around 1 mega pixel and was worth approximately $13,000.  It was a Nikon 8008 that Kodak retrofitted with a digital back.  Our digital cameras today are much more sophisticated and of extreme quality that they surpass film.

So when somebody asks how long I have been digital I usually say, 2002, BUT my first digital photo in reality was 1992 …. way before my competition even heard of digital cameras ;-)

Last 2009 Senior!

Posted in Uncategorized on June 1, 2009 by richbanick

Here is the our last 2009 senior, she is the daughter of a former co-worker of mine.  I haven’t seen them in 10 years!  They drove a few hours to get to the studio.  I had a chance to test out a few new backgrounds, getting ready for the 2010 seniors that start……TOMORROW!!
